How Do You Play OD Support Dota 2 General Discussions

How do you play OD support?

Although I’ve heard that OD can now be played as a Support after his buffs, I can’t seem to make it work. I’ve played three matches so far, and had minimal impact in all of them. In lane, his theoretical advantages (spammable, high-damage disable and ridiculous movespeed) just don’t seem to count for anything. In fights, what typically happens is I get one Astral off, then the enemy dives the backline and kills me. I’m not sure if I’m just getting bad matchups, incompetent teammates, or what (in the last match, we never had a true teamfight, it was always one guy getting picked off and the rest of the team gets rolled up), but for a hero to be a good support, it needs to be able to contribute even in unfavourable matches, and there are plenty of supports (Warlock, Ogre, etc.) where I never die even when my team’s getting facerolled due to my own good positioning. I’ve been trying to put together a build (Tranquils into Drums to maximize my movespeed, then Astral into Force/Atos into Aghs), but I’ve never gotten as far as the Aghs, and my OD can’t farm as well as my Ogre or Maiden. Any tips?

My OpenDota so you can check my matches: /players/ You have a mana sustain ability and a right click ability. After that, we can doubt this hero can even be played support. In the end, he only has a weird disable and a big cooldown AOE nuke. Not good for a support.

Why play OD support when shadow demon could do the same thing with disruption but with more efficency?

I guess astral emprisonment can be used to save people from Axe call, from Huskar Ult, from Jugg Ult, from Necrophos ult and such, but it is extremely situational and probaly isn’t worth it.

Better playing Dazzle, Oracle or Shadow Demon. OD only does something they can do but less efficiently.

Yeah those do not look like very good matchups, at best 1 or 2 of them were meh just looking at the heroes.

My OpenDota so you can check my matches: {LINK REMOVED}/players/ Tranquils is enough, you dont need more speed, OD got speed buffed anyway. You need range, thats why aether and Aghs are important. Harassing is easy, mana leeching great, astral is a great disable which can help in a lot of teamfights, secure kills and or safe you or teammates. Dmg output is fantastic, OD is imbalanced overpowered now and winrate went up 10% in one week. Playing him as pos 4 might result in reports, people are just braindead at dota.

+ 10% from 39% isn’t even that good. Also, offlane and safelane winrate are lower than his mid winrate. Offlane being is worst winrate, that is why you would get reported for that, at least in ranked.
The same reason people pick sniper support, invoker support, alchemist support and antimage support. Report them and move on.

You simply don’t. Now move on.

od support seems like a meme tbh, meaning it can work but you’re better off picking another support 90% of the time.

i believe the reason why you’re seeing OD in every role is that we haven’t figured his role out yet with his recent buffs.

edit:
if you insist, meteor hammer looks like a good idea. see: /hero/Outworld%20Devourer
