“The woman defines my brand, that wears the brand, she’s someone that doesn’t take fashion too seriously, she is effortless in the way she dresses, she is well cultured and traveled, and likes to have fun,” she explains. Basma Abu Ghazaleh, the founder and creative director of the remarkable brand, KAGE. She shares her first memory of fashion, which is when she dressed up her cousin and herself with shapeless garbage bags at a very young age. In conversation with Basma, she stated that when her brand started a couple of years ago, it did not have any support. However, today, there is a lot of help with the likes of Fashion Forward and Dubai Design District that have established a creative community to inspire and exchange ideas with fellow designers. She believes that every local brand faces the struggle of international recognition and not being taken seriously by others. As a designer, Basma advises younger designers who are on a similar path to be patient and to listen to those who have more significant experience. You need to be passionate, she said, to be super dedicated and to always get inspired as a fashion designer.
