As The Kashmir Files Gets Quoted As Propaganda By IFFI Jury Films Makers Supporters React

The Kashmir Files went to shake the country from within. The Vivek Agnihotri directorial was based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits and showed a glimpse of what the horrific incident would have felt like. Recently, at the 53rd International Film Festival of India in Goa, a jury called the Anupam Kher starrer ‘vulgar’, ‘propaganda’ to which several celebrities have reacted.

Israeli filmmaker Nadav Lapid, this year’s jury head, said he was ‘disturbed’ to watch The Kashmir Files and that got the people talking.
He said, “All of us were disturbed and shocked by the 15th film, The Kashmir Files. That felt like a propaganda, vulgar movie, inappropriate for an artistic competitive section of such a prestigious film festival. I feel totally comfortable to openly share these feelings here with you on this stage. In the spirit of this festival, can surely also accept a critical discussion, which is essential for art and life.”

The Kashmir Files actor Anupam Kher first posted a quote to take a dig at Nadav and later came in public to issue his statement.
Anupam last night shared a quote in Hindi that read, “No matter how high the height of the lie is.. It is always small in comparison to the truth.” His tweet carried a screengrab of Anupam from the film along with pictures from Steven Spielberg’s 1993 Holocaust film Schindler’s List.

Earlier this morning in a video shared by ANI, Anupam was seen saying, “About The Kashmir Files, I would tell that individual that may God give him wisdom. I would just say that because speaking of such matters outside a temple isn’t right. We’ll give a proper reply to it. If holocaust is right, the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits is right too. It seems pre-planned as immediately after that the toolkit gang became active.”

“It’s shameful for him to make a statement like this. Jews have suffered Holocaust and he comes from that community. For him to make such a statement, he has also pained those people who have been victims of this tragedy many years ago. May God give him wisdom so that he does not further his agenda on stage using the sufferings of thousands,” he added.

Film’s director Vivek Agnihotri posted a cryptic messagethat was redirected to Nadav’s comment. He tweeted, “GM (good morning). Truth is the most dangerous thing. It can make people lie. #CreativeConsciousness”. Film’s producer Abhishek Agrawal also took to Twitter and called out Nadav’s remark saying, ‘we don’t need your validation.’

> GM.

Truth is the most dangerous thing. It can make people lie. #CreativeConsciousness

> We do not need your validation #NadavLapid we have thousands of people who have gone through this holocaust and I have met many personally seen their pain & suffering. #TheKashmirFiles #KashmirFilesISTruth. @AnupamPKher @vivekagnihotri pic.twitter.com/IiDdQP3dTF

— Abhishek Agarwal 🇮🇳 (@AbhishekOfficl) November 29, Actor Ranvir Shorey also reacted to Nadav’s statement and disapproved of it clearly.
Ranvir wrote on his Twitter wall, “The singling out of a film and the language used to describe it is completely unbecoming of a film jury or critic. It reeks of politics. Cinema has always been the harbinger of truth & change, not an agent to stifle or snuff it. Shameful display of political opportunism at #IFFI.”

Ashoke Pandit shared a series of tweets and even questioned the selection of Nadav as a jury. See his tweets:
> I take strong objection to the language used by Mr. Nadav Lapid for #kashmirFiles .
Depicting the genocide of 3 lakh #KashmiriHindus cannot be called vulgar .
I as a filmmaker & a #KashmiriPandit condemn this shameless act of abuse towards victims of terrorism .

— Ashoke Pandit (@ashokepandit) November 28, 2022
> Dear @ianuragthakur ji .
I as a #KashmiriPandit & who is a victim of genocide seek a serious actn agnst Mr. #NadavLapid Jury head of IFFI 2022 fr calling d depiction of our tragedy as vulgar .
Hs hs added salt to our wounds&hence shld b made to tender a apology .#KashmirFiles

— Ashoke Pandit (@ashokepandit) November 28, > #NadavLapid’s selection as the jury head of #IFFI53Goa is a major lapse on behalf of I&B ministry.

Hence heads of those in the ministry, who are responsible for this crime, should roll. What does one expect from a Palestine sympathiser?!#KashmirFiles

— Ashoke Pandit (@ashokepandit) November 28, 2022
> #Israeli filmmaker #NadavLapid has made a mockery of India’s fight against terrorism by calling #KashmirFiles a vulgar film .
He has insulted 7 lac #KashmiriPandits under the nose of the #BJP govt .
Its a big blow to #IFFIGoa2022 ‘s credibility.
Shame .

— Ashoke Pandit (@ashokepandit) November 28, > #NadavLapid’s irresponsible statement against #KashmiriFiles is an insult 2 Indian filmmakers.
I therefore appeal to Indian Filmmakers to stand by a fellow director @vivekagnihotri and denounce a foreigner, who mocked the genocide & ethnic cleansing of #KashmiriPandits.#IFFI — Ashoke Pandit (@ashokepandit) November 29, 2022
